Research and Innovation

Research and Innovation is covered by Protocol 31 to the EEA Agreement and falls under Subcommittee IV.

Research and Innovation is one of the core objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. The creation of a European Research Area, where researchers and scientific knowledge can circulate freely, is a key factor in European efforts to meet EU 2020 goals.

The EFTA Working Group on Research and Innovation follows the EU’s science and innovation policy and initiatives in this field, and in particular Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, which is the financial instrument implementing the Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness.
