Consumer Protection

The Working Group on Consumer Affairs follows the work of the EU in the field of consumer protection.
EU consumer rules aim to ensure that the Internal Market is open, fair and transparent, so that consumers can exercise real choice. It also aims for a better understanding of consumers and markets to ensure greater consumer protection regulation and increased participation of civil society stakeholders.
Legislation in the field of Consumer Affairs is incorporated into Annex XIX to the EEA Agreement. This includes the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, the Sales and Guarantees Directive and the Unfair Contract Terms Directive
New developments in this field include the introduction of rules for online dispute resolution (consumer ADR ODR), revised rules on Package Travel and linked travel arrangements and new proposals for digital contract rules
